The Company has noted the public interest generated by the question whether vaccination for Covid 19 should be made mandatory, especially in the workplace.
Our Company has fortunately or unfortunately been one of the first entities that has been seized with this vexed question and has had its insistence on its employees being vaccinated being considered and affirmed by the Commission for Conciliation Mediation (“The CCMA”).
The facts of the matter pertaining to the matter between our Company and the employee involved are a matter of Public Record and need not be repeated in this media statement.
While the Company believes that it was within its rights, as enjoined by the obligation to maintain a safe working environment for all its employees, we are of the view that this might and most likely will still need to be ventilated and decided upon by the Courts of the land.
Moreover, any of the employees, be they of this Company or any other entity affected by this question, may still refer the matter for determination by an institution of higher jurisdiction
In the result the Company wishes to place on record that it will not grant any interviews with the media at this stage while this issue remains to be settled by the Courts.
